At age 12, David moved to Jamesburg with his family from South River. He graduated from Jamesburg High School in 1974, attended Mt. St. Mary's College, Emmitsburg, MD and graduated from American Academy McAllister Institute of New York City with a degree in Mortuary Science in 1977. He became a licensed Funeral Director in the State of New Jersey (Lic. #3483) in 1979 after completing his apprenticeship with four funeral homes. David held a dual career as a police officer with the Jamesburg Police Department from 1982 until his retirement in 2007. The last 91/2 years of his tenure as the Chief of Police. His service to the community of Jamesburg began as a teenager when he became a Cadet for Jamesburg Volunteer First Aid Squad. Over the years he has received awards and commendations for his work as a police officer and has been a member of many groups and organizations. Curently he is a member of the St. James Knights of Columbus Council #6336, Monroe Twp. and the Jamesburg Civic Associaton. Chief Lester has resided in Monroe Township for the past 25 years with his wife Karen and two children David and Chelsea. He is a parishioner of St. James the Less RC Church, Jamesburg.
